Welcome to Episode 017 of Optimized Ecommerce – Why Most Shopify Dropshipping Stores Fail. I am your host, Tanner Larsson, CEO of BGS.

BGS means Build Grow Scale! It is a community that we founded where eCommerce entrepreneurs and physical product sellers come to learn how to take their businesses to the next level.

In today’s episode, we’ll talk about dropshipping and how appealing it is at present. The concept of dropshipping has been captivating the market even before the digital age. It’s been around since the times of the catalog era.  Sadly, a lot of people have bastardized this type of business.

Dropshipping is a legitimate business model. Valid and legal, and just because you do not carry the burden of holding inventory, doesn’t make it any less of a business. So make sure you stay tuned to this episode to learn the best practices done in dropshipping business.

Here’s just a taste of what we talked about today:

Order products for yourself

It may not be the norm now, but if you have found a product that you want to sell, you have got to order and try it out for yourself. Experiencing the product gives you an upper hand against the competition.

Order about a dozen

The main reason for this is for you to be sure that the quality of the same product remains consistent throughout. Remember, it’s not just your business that’s at stake every time an order is sent to a customer, but also your name. So be sure to sell only quality products on your site. Products that you can vouch on. Products that will make your customers feel that they had a great deal.

Make use of the opportunity

Now that you have products on hand, you can now do what other drop shippers fail to do. One is to take photos to put on your site and not just some generic ones copied from the main site. Two, you can now check the product for yourself and make a listing with good product descriptions and information.

We also discussed a few other fun topics, including:

  • Provide value to customers, something that other dropshippers won’t do. It will help guarantee your edge in the competition.
  • Be a specialized store and not a general store. People buy more from a specialty store.
  • Dropshipping is a real business, and you have to treat it as such. If you want people to buy from legitimate sellers, then you should be a legitimate online seller yourself.

…and more! But you’ll have to watch or listen to the episode to hear about those!
